Robert L. Minter, Jr.

Robert L. Minter, Jr. was born and raised in Knoxville, TN. Robert attended Austin High School Class of 1960, attended Knoxville College and work for Dempster INC/Carrier Corp. for 22 years . Minter is married to Regena A Minter and has one son Robert L. Minter 111. Minter not only served his country by serving in the U. S. Army and Vietnam, but continues to serve his fellow man through his profession and involvement in our community.

Minter retired from the Knox County government Purchasing Division as a Supplier Diversity Coordinator for over 25 years, combined experience in private and public sector procurement.

Minter is known for his community service as Host/Executive producer and creator of “What’s Going On” TV show. What’s Going On guests offer a broad range of information on any topic, organization, and event. It air on Community TV Comcast cable Channel 12, Charter 6, Knology 6, and AT&T Uverse Channel 99. You can also view it online at www.ctvknox.org the show has been on the air for 14 years. The show received an award in recognition of its efforts and contributions to Community Television programming.

Minter also is the hosts of another Talk radio show called “Business on Demand” It is a local independent talk radio show for small and minority business owners. The radio show provides information about bids opportunities and networking events to business owners and to provide guidance on how to successfully compete for contracts. The show broadcast on Wednesdays from 1:00-2:00 pm on WJBE 1040 AM and 99.7 FM you can also hear the shows online at the same time at www.WJBE.am.

Minter also host a new talk radio show called “Talk of the Town”, this show talks about current events and community issues, It airs Tuesday, and Friday from 1:00-2:00 pm also on WJBE 1040 AM and 99.7 FM.

In addition to Minter talk shows he also wrote articles, spotlighting small minority and disadvantage businesses, these articles were in two weekly new papers and two regional new letters.

Minter is the recipient of 2 professional awards; his awards include SBA Minority Small Business Champion Award and the East Tennessee Purchasing Asso. (ETPA) Service Award. Minter also received an award from The 100 Black Men of Knoxville.

Minter was president of the Austin East PTSA/PTSO for 5 years, former Board Member for the Bijou Theater also Minter belongs to many organizations such as; The East Tennessee Veterans Memorial Association (ETVMA) Baby Roadrunner Football Organization and the AE Margret Manning Tailgater, East Tennessee Purchasing Association, Tennessee Association of Public Purchasing, National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, Improved, Benevolent, Protective Order of Elks of the World, East Knoxville Business And Professional Association, North Knoxville Business And Professional Association, National Action Network and the Executive Producer of Community Television Show “What ‘s Going On”.

Minter also accomplishes numerous Military Awards such as National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service w/2 Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Valorous Unit Award, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Equipped.

Whether its serving his community with one of his many Talk shows or coaching young children who’s played Grasshopper football for his community’s, Minter believes that tomorrow’s leaders have so much to gain by learning from the experiences of those who paved the road to success in the past.
